come back soon.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND ME

From an early age, I picked up a camera and didn’t let go. After a house fire at the age of six, losing everything and thus every baby photo ever, I became obsessed with the idea of documenting EVERYTHING. Anxious of my forgetful mind, I started to take photos of every occasion, encasing my memories in photographs so I wouldn’t lose them.

When I realized how much I loved the creation of an image, I decided to make it my life. I studied my bachelor’s degree of Professional Photography at University of Central Missouri, mostly for their photography department. It was the best decision I could have made.

I had the best outdoorsy backpacking photographer professors that showed me my way around an image – that it should mean something – that every image will tell someone a story – that it’s important. They also set the best examples of humans, taking some students (like me) on photo hiking trips in the fall, in which we really got to know each other. Two of them – Thomas Mitchell and Robert Breshears – became my mentors, and I thought of them so kindly – especially when I was studying abroad. There’s nothing like learning the same subject from multiple places – it makes it clearer who really knows what they’re talking about. My professors also proved that a degree in photography is nothing to scoff at. My many late-night tears did as well, struggling to finish an assignment. Art is complicated because it’s so subjective.

I am so thankful to have professional knowledge of photography to apply in the real world combined with the travel experience to tell you how it really goes.

Photography and I have had such an interesting past. From obsessively documenting everything with my little point-and-shoot as a kid –  endless photoshoots with my best-friends in high school –  tears and frustration and late night in the studio – to helping me paint a landscape. My camera has been my trusty sidekick, journeyed with me through waterfalls and beaches and mountains all over the world. Our relationship isn’t always steady, but love never is.

I cannot wait to share with you my photography guide, but first I had to explain my place within it. My reasons for photography have transformed many times, as I expect it to continue, but my love has never ended. I know photography like the back of my hand, and I’d love to share my experiences with you, hoping it helps you as well.

So before I start, what questions do you all have about photography?
